was like a cross between Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, and a drug trip. Probably inspired by a drug trip. At the same time, it was genius. Sadly, I'm not sure if my stomach could handle watching it enough times to "get" a lot of what it was saying.

It wasn't like Alice in Wonderland because every time it got really really bad I was like, "Phew, they're finally going to end it..." but they never did. Not until she found the mask. In that way, I think it was a bit like real life... stuff doesn't "get fixed" until it gets fixed. I kept hoping she'd wake up... but it just seemed to take forever. Maybe there's meaning even there...

There was one class when they showed a bunch of ninja films. I loved them. They were very amateur looking, but when it came down to it, i didnt care. I thought they were funny, inventive, and original. It wasn't just chuck a knife at some guys and see blood spew everywhere. Those kind of videos annoy me so much! also like the videos that are just some guy getting blown up for no reason what-so-ever. those kinds of videos are like my biggest pet0peeve. They make me so mad. When boys watch those films, they crack up, but when girls watch them, they are just like"I dont find that funny. But these films were great and i am glad i got to see them.

I loved the unity of this music video! they used their FANS to make this!I assume they used webcams and evrything. It was incredible! I liked when they all had the tears running down the screena dn everything, and when they like went in each others videos. I wonder how they did all that and tied it all together. It was amazingly original. the nity of all these different people made for such a powerful film. It must have been so hard to put together, and very challenging to do, but it was worth it. that music video was neat and powerful at the same time. I have never seen anything like it! I was in awe. I showed a ton of my friends and they all just had their jaws wide open. what all can u say about other than, "Wow"?

PART ONE

It was a cold dark day as I made my way to the MCA. It seemed a not too uncommon day, everything seemed normal but little did I know that the events leading to my ultimate death were about to be set in motion.

I entered the computer lab to begin working on my project I needed to get done. Just a few short edits in Final Cut was all I had left too do. I went to my normal computer in the corner where I could isolate myself from what was going on in the room and fully envelope myself in my work. As I moved the mouse to turn off the screen saver instead of seeing the now familiar login box I was greeted by a blue screen with a small circle at the bottom slowly spinning trying to tease me into thinking that it was in fact working and would in fact accomplish whatever the hell it was trying to do. I now see that this was a clear sign from God of my coming death but at the time I was more than satisfied with my abilities to do a hard restart of the computer and that this action would fix everything for me. Haha. Wow I must say I look pretty stupid in hindsight.

West Side Story

That was a great video! haha i loved it! I was funny and it was sarcastically making fun of musicals. Even though i love musicals and i love romantic stories, i still thought it was good. Though, i do have one complaint. I think the video had 4 spots where it could have ended. I personally didn't like the transitions in this film, but overall i thought it was successful. I liked how it had forbidden love and a family rivalry. On the other hand, it wasn't very original. It has been done amany times. It was even done in avatar the last airbender. The story of Oma and Shu. they ended u combining their tribes from their love and made the earth kingdom city of mashu! It was very good.

Ok so the only real reason I'm writing this blog is because I saw that someone had written about the joys that the site fml.com brings them and I thought I could find a way to bring more joy to people's life by introducing them to mlia.com. This website is what happens on a regular basis to people and...as far fetched as some of the stories are...they are hilarious! I literally lol at least 3-4 times per page which is more than I did on fml. MLIA is a hysterical way to put off homework a little longer and feel like you aren't along in the stupid little things you do. My project in Editing

So in my digital tools and media management class, we had to make a DVD of all the project we had done. I finished all the projects and that DVD, but i had a lot of problems. I ended up spending 2 days straight in the MCA lab. it was aweful. but i got the help of a lot of the students here and they were so nice about it. I learned that i dont know much about the programs that we had to use, but after 16 hours, and 9 beachball crashes, i got it done!! when i took that DVD out of the burner, i saw the light part of the disk where all my work was stored and i i was so proud and happy about my work. i realized that this is what i wanted to do even though i was having my doubts. It was a great moment. There was nothing like it.

Ludo-Broken Bride

So I don't know how many of you have read the time machine but it's an excellent story that I think you should read. But the reason why I bring this up is that the band Ludo has released an album called broken bride which is loosely based on the story of the time machine. The basic premise is that a mans wife is killed and he is so torn up he decides to build a time machine to travel back in time to save her life. He builds his time machine but goes back way to far and gets trapped in the past for a time. All the songs on this album tie together telling this story in an amazing way. I havn't really seen an album like this before thats not a musical. If you get the chance you should definately check this out, but although the songs are good on their own, it's best experienced as a whole piece.

The True meaning of CHRISTmas is not how many presents you receive or even the number in which you give. It's important to remember the whole reason of Christmas is the birth of our Savior JESUS CHRIST!

There are several components to Christmas but three very important ones:

1. Joseph

2. The Wise Men

3. Mary

First, Joseph.

Joseph not only showed obedience to God, but also the selflessness it took, giving up his 'position'. He was seen as a righteous man, and for his betrothed to be found pregnant would be disgraceful! He submitted to the angel of the Lord when the angel told him this was of God. Giving up is respected position. Without Joseph this story would completely incomplete!

Second, the Wise Men.

We don't know exactly how many Wise Men there were, but we come to the conclusion of 3 because there were three gifts given to baby Jesus. The Wise Men sought after the King born in Bethlehem. They fulfilled God's plans, stirred up the king who wanted to kill Jesus. An angel appeared to them in a dream warning them not to go back to the king--

Third, Mary.

Mary a virgin. Giving birth to a child.... HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE! Ya know my mind can still not comprehend that detail, but that is where faith comes in. Knowing that God is in control and He can do whatever pleases Him. He created this universe! But He used Mary to bear His One and only Son. What a blessing. Mary a young women was terrified, but took on the responsibility as was prophesied!

Each component is important in it's own way, and every component is essential.

Christ was born, a gift given from a selfless heart.

Christmas is about giving the Love of CHRIST and sharing His Precious Gift!!

"Wise men still seek Him"

About a month ago Insomniac Games released another title for a little series called Ratchet and Clank. Some of you may remember this unlikely duo from the Playstation 2 iterations such as Deadlocked, Up Your Arsenal, or just the original. Unfortunately, this title does not have a somewhat suggestive title like it's predecessors. But I can assure you of the games quality.

-So this starts off right where Quest for Booty left off. However you really don't have to have played previous titles to understand what's going on. You are immediately, and hilariously, caught up to speed by Captain Qwark while the game installs.

-So basically a Lombax named Ratchet is looking for his buddy Clank while being chased down by an old arch nemesis. You quickly stumble onto a huge scheme and the game unfolds from there.

-A Crack in Time plays just like Tools of Destruction. So if you want to know what to expect, there ya go. The targetting system can still be somewhat of a hassle and the camera can be awkward while zooming in, but overall handles really well for the 3rd person perspective. Weapons are a ton of fun and there is basically a gun for every occasions.

The arsenal is what always have made Ratchet and Clank games wondrous. However, it seems that Insomniac has kind of removed weapons that are really "out there". You get your basic load out of a pistol, a bomb thrower, and a shotgun which are all customizable. There are however a few gems in this pile of ammo.

-Fans will be incredibly pleased with what happens story wise. The writing is fantastic as always and repetitive goon dialog has pretty much dwindled to a bare minimum. Pretty much all the loose ends are tied up and the characters are present wonderfully. There's your occasional twists and your standard Ratchet rescue missions. I think what really separates this game from it's predecessors are the Clank missions.

-In the Clank missions you have several time puzzles to solve. You are able to create "multiple-selves" within time and open doors and push buttons. Sounds easy enough right? WRONG. Some of these can get a bit taxing at the end but don't leave you so frustrated that you throw your controller into the television.

-The game takes approximately 10-12 hours to finish. Levels are pretty much linear without too much option of where to go. Most gold bolts and Zoni are easy to find if you just look around a few corners here and there. And that's where the game runs into a slight problem. It's easy. Quite easy. I didn't really get challenged at all until the last few missions. Of course there is the option of the challenge mode which, as always, is extremely enjoyable.

-Overall the game was an enjoyable experience. It has some moderate flaws but still delivers as a very competent Ratchet and Clank game. It's obviously the best looking and has my consideration for best game in the series.

fmylife.com really brightens my day. Ever have one of those just really crappy where nothing goes right? The one way to make it better is reading about someone who had an even worse day! While this may seem like a shallow way to get your blues out and some happiness back in your day, I like to counteract these guilty feelings with the fact that if these people who had such terrible days didn't want to give someone in the world a smile, they wouldn't be online in the first place.

Stardust

I absolutely love the movie Stardust, not because it is a cinematic masterpiece or because the special effects are spectacular, but because of the story. In case you haven't all figured this out yet...I am a huge story person! If a story is good I'm pretty sure I'll like the movie alot, unless the acting is terrible or everything else about it is awful. This movie has pretty good acting and absolutely hilarious lines and a beautiful love story that will be carried through time. One of my friends and I discuss this movie alot because he can't stand it and I love it. He thinks that it doesn't have good acting, other than Robert DeNiro and Michelle Pfeiffer, the cinematography is ok, and the story is the best part about it, and that isn't that great. As much as I agree with the first two, I can't agree with the last statement. I know I'm a hopeless romantic, but this story says so much about love and how unconditional it is supposed to be that I can't help but love it. When the star (Claire Danes) tells Tristan (Charlie Cox) what she knows about love and that she's fallen for him that is the most beautiful monologue about love I have ever heard.
"You know when I said I knew little about love? That wasn't true. I know alot about love. I've seen it, I've seen centuries and centuries of it, and that was the only thing that made watching your world bearable. All those wars. Pain, lies, hate...It made me want to turn away and never look down again. But to see the way that mankind loves...You could search to the furthest reaches of the universe and never find anything more beautiful. So yes, I know that love is unconditional. But I also know that it can be unpredictable, unexpected, uncontrollable, unbearable, and strangely easy to mistake for loathing, and...What I'm trying to say, Tristan is...I think I love you. Is this love Tristan? I never imagined I'd know it for myself. My heart...It feels like my chest can barely contain it. Like it's trying to escape because it doesn't belong to me anymore. It belongs to you. And if you wanted it, I'd wish for nothing in exchange-no gifts. No goods. No demonstrations of devotion. Nothing but knowing you loved me too. Just your heart, in exchange for mine." This is such a contrast to Tristan's original love interest Victoria who wants Tristan to travel to the farthest parts of the world to bring her back material goods. Yvaine's love is pure and true, not relying on what Tristan does or doesn't do. That is the kind of love that God showed us and all he wants is our hearts in return. Once again, I am blown away by the Christian truths that are in non-Christian films and how powerful that message is.

Facing your own Giants

Facing the Giants has a great plot to the film! Of course the materials used may not have been the best but I think the content went way beyond...

Maybe only for the Christian.

Facing The Giants shows that it takes integrity, perseverance, trust, commitment, mental toughness, passion in order to just survive in everyday life!

Not only when the going is easy. It's hard to put these traits into practice when the going is tough. It's when the day is wonderful and everything is going well that you still need to apply these truths everyday. So that when the day(s) of trials come you will be able to stand firm.

We all have giants of our own whether the whole world knows it or just you and Jesus. But we all have them.

How do we conquer the giants in our lives?

By the Strength of our Lord Jesus Christ!

If He is for us, WHO can stand against us?!!

Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and Ye shall be saved. Live every day to the fullest and Praise God for the little things in life as well as the big things. For He is the Creator of all and His Name is to be praised!!

Board Games

all i want to know is what the heck happened to board games. one day there the big thing then the next there old hat in the garage. i mean my family use to have a day set where we would all get together and play board games. that was like the best time ever! but now we never play board games or even cards its like they just left the house and never came back now every one just rots there brains with video games. but i would have to say that video games are way more fun you dont have to have more then one person to play you can play where ever when ever and you can not bother any one while playing them. but any ways what happened to monopoly! that game is amazing and like no one ever plays it cuz "its to long"! who cares it is an amazing game. but what do they come out with that makes board games seem like old hat hand held board games! like Yahtzee my family plays the hand held all the time but we never play for real! but just so you know i like board games and i would like to play them more. but thats just me! and how i feel about it. if you never liked board games then thats fine but i still do. :)

He randomly came to stardom through Twilight's sequel "New Moon." And now he's on the cover of Rolling Stone. Taylor Lautner stars in one major teen flick and he instantly is on a major magazine cover, taking precedence over musical greats such as Aerosmith and Tom Petty. What has happened America? One 17 year old boy does some mediocre acting and you've made him your star. He didn't have to prove anything, and now he's set for life. No wonder we have so many bad actors and singers. America's teens apparently have bad taste.

Parody Videos

One form of entertainment nowadays that seems to be extremely popular is parody shorts. There are many options available when it comes to parodies. There are ones on movies, news and current events, books, and everyday life. Most shorts are found on Youtube. One popular one that I hadn't encountered until I came to college is "How it Should Have ended" These videos show how the creators felt popular movies should have ended instead. They can be funny and point out some of the major errors in the movie.

Yes this parody makes fun of video games and how ridiculous they can be. Can you get all the allusion in this video in one watch, probably not so it does a good job as a parody entertaining

My role as a storywriter part 2

After doing some research on what it takes to become a professional scriptwriter, I now know that one has to first create a script and register it with the WGA (Writers Guild). Once it’s registered, you then send it to producers and agents using an online pitch service such as Virtual Pitchfest or by consulting an online industry contacts database. If the critiques like it and contact you in the next few months, then you’re in business, and if not, it’s back to the old drawing board. While this is the common method used to get into the scriptwriting business, there are still many other things I can do to increase my chances as well, such as participating in as many movie projects as possible and entering movie and writing competitions.

So if all things work out well and I’m actually able to make it into the scriptwriting business, how then would I make a difference in the industry? Now that I’ve finished my Intro to DMA class, I have a pretty good idea of exactly what my job as a Christian filmmaker is. I’ve learned that the main jobs of a storyteller are to challenge, delight, and enlighten. Stories, I believe are a gift from God, and as a result are capable of being extremely powerful. A truly good story challenges its readers into thinking and acting in new ways they’ve never considered before, delights the reader by encouraging and raising spirits. And finally they enlighten readers, and help them become aware of certain truths they never knew existed.

That is the job of a storyteller, and that is exactly what I plan to do. To use my gifts in whatever way possible creating impacting stories for the world to view, as well as to glorify God in all that I do.

Munich

Once again Signs and Wonders scores! I loved Munich, and a brilliant example of non-western perspectives. It followed an Israeli task force responding to the attack on the Israeli athletes from the Germany Olympics. It was a great story about revenge and the implications of a more subtle type of war. When we think of war we think of two sides lining up and fighting each other but, this movie displays it is much more than that.

I also loved the character development, the task force was a ragtag group of men, many of them not soldiers, who were asked to fight for their country. Throughout the movie you see how haunted the characters are by what they are doing and how it conflicts with their beliefs. However, it still bears the question when someone attacks your country should you try and stop them? Do you sit idly by and watch them terrorize you? Is it worth it when eviler men replace those that you kill? like I said it raised a lot of good questions and was a great movie that everyone should see.

Trek wars

Star trek, the show that boldly goes where no show had gone before. What is the specialness of this show when compared to other shows, the fact that when the original series came out it was cutting edge graphics. However as time went on the role went to Star Wars. Star Wars was created by George Lucas. Everything in it was cutting edge. He spent so much time working on different ways to make everything come alive in the movie. What many of you may not know is that he was initially disappointed with his first release that he obtained all the original copies of the films and burned them so he could remade the the trilogy. If you watched the rereleases then you can clearly see a difference in the movies. Did you know that Jabba was originally a fat man! I know it is crazy you can see the video below. Sci-fi movies what would we do without them. We would not have the dashing young space cadet, with the tough alien sidekick that is what.

My role as a Storywriter part 1

As a Digital Media Arts Major, my greatest interest career-wise is in the movie industry. I personally believe that, of the many different types of media industries out there, the movie industry plays one of the most predominant roles in today’s culture. Movies today are a worldwide phenomenon, blockbuster films are seen by millions all over the world, and regardless of whether or not we realize it, the movies we see do impact us. While some films may have a positive impact on today’s society, I am convinced that many of today’s films also have a negative impact on today’s public. So many films today are full of sex, violence, drugs, and profanity that clearly do nothing but harm our culture and lead on a downhill path. That is why my goal is to try and make it into the movie industry, to hopefully help bring about more good quality films that could make a positive impact on my society as well as glorify God.

One occupation that I consider an ideal job that I would love to one day do in life is to become a movie scriptwriter. There are so many films coming out today that have, to put it simply, horrible storylines. While I’m not necessarily claiming that I could do a better job than all the rest, I would like an opportunity to try and come up with my own story ideas. In wanting to be a storyteller, I’ve already begun to do what I can to make this dream happen. Having written two books and working on my third, I’m doing all I can to prepare myself for my ideal profession.

Christians In Media

I was watching the new comedy show Community and one of the main characters was going to have a Christmas party. And she assumed that most of her friends were christians. When she found out that a ton of different religions populated their group she got defensive and treating their beliefs like they were not as holy as hers citizens, especially when they started talking about their individual beliefs. At first I was mad that this was the way that they were portraying christians, but then when I looked back on it I realized would I have acted any different. Would I not too think that my religion was better and lord it over them. Tolerance is always a tricky thing especially with a mission like the great commission, however the only way we are going to make friends in this world is if we learn to listen to other people and act like a family even if we don't always agree.

Laugh out Loud

So last week Tyson did a short presentation on exactly how comedy can be used to discuss major issues. I really enjoyed the presentation and it got me to really think. There are so many issues that need to be addressed in today's society, but all to often we avoid talking about them because it's awkward to do so or not politically correct. But by using comedy, it is possible to discuss certain issues that we otherwise could not. In his presentation, Tyson used Robin Williams and Chris Rock as examples of how one can use comedy to address problems that otherwise would be hard to talk about. If one can't seriously discuss an issue, then why not laugh about it.

I think I speak for everyone when I say these lyrics ring true. Everybody has a monster deep within them, and sometimes it can be a struggle just to keep it caged. The monster may be jealousy, lust, etc. We need to find the best ways to control these beasts. Praying is one way to help, but self willpower is also needed to push through the bad times.

Manipulation

I found an interesting article today on Yahoo. Strangely enough, it also really applys to my life right now, and I've realized I've let myself be manipulated by people. Thanks for the heads up Yahoo.
The 5 behaviors of manipulative people are:

Buttering you up-manipulators will tell you what you want to hear in order to get their way

Guilt-the manipulator will make you feel as though you have to do what they want

Broken Record-they will keep telling you over and over again

Selective memory-they remember what they want to remember, and when that messes up plans or causes complications, it is never their fault.

Bullying-if the manipulater doesn't get their way, they will make you look or feel like the bad guy, which simply isn't fair.

Don't fall prey to these sneaky tricks....

Twilight... Porn... ?

Do we really need to listen to movie critics? The other day on the news I was strictly told not to see Blind Side. In fact they said it was a horrible movie! The movie that they did suggest was Twilight. I almost puked!

My youth pastor has said multiple times that Twilight is for girls the equivalent at pornography is for guys. It messes with the same emotions in both guys and girls. In fact, they release the same type of hormones in both guys and girls. I respect Twilight because it knows how to get in deep with peoples (girls) emotions and that is what makes good films. But I do not like the particular emotions that it is messing with. My friend back home posted on his Facebook that Twilight is messing up girl’s views about men. Men are NOT bare-chested all the time with spray-on abs and glitter on our chests! Just like girls do not have to be all skinny.

I am sure many see where I am headed with this so I will stop now for safety reasons. I would appreciate all comments. Girls, please do not bash me too hard! -Cary

Oh, Blind Side was fantastic! Nothing better than popular secular films with Christian morals! Don’t listen to the critics all the time!

Video Games and Youth

I just realized that when I think of video games these days I often do not think of them as being “media.” On some level I am tempted to blame our class for this. We have, on some level, constructed this idea that media is the messages that are sent out in the world through stories. Well, as Tim, Tyler, and Jake exposed, video games are doing the same thing live action and animation can do.

Video games are so different because they are one of two forms of media that people can interact with. The other one would be computers. As we know, people learn best when they are using multiple senses. The fact that video games are so entwined in today’s youth means that kids are remembering more of what they experience than in movies.

We really need to make sure that video games are made with the minds of youth in thought. If we continue messing up by releasing nasty video games, we will create some nasty generations. I am not 100% against Halo and games of that sort; I am just saying we must be more careful.

Okay I would like to talk about one the the most underrated games of our generation. What is that game you ask? that game is earthbound. Many of you might not know what this game is, that is okay I am here to tell you what it is. Earthbound is one of the most revolutionizing RPGs of its time. Instead of roaming around a world waiting for random encounters you would actually see them roaming the main world. Also instead of swords, bows, and axes you use baseball bats, pop guns and frying pans as weapon in fighting the evil monsters. Also one of the cooler parts of the game is when you get psychic powers to use against the monsters. Many of you might not think this is that cool but if you went to long without calling home, then your main character would get homesick. I mean what other video games would allow that to happen? If just words do not work for you then check these videos out.

First of all Phillip Blooms work is fantastic and you all have a look at it. But this piece in particular caught my eye. There one shot in here at 2:29 which has multiple focus points. It's a beautiful shot. This is mostly just an environment piece where he went around a filmed stuff and edited it together. While I'm sure for a lot of people they will find this boring, they're is an amazing amount of beauty in how he sets up and composes each shot. No story. No deep meaning. No plot. Just taking something in the world thats beautiful and showing it in a way that it deserves to be shown.

I enjoyed this movie. It definitely brought things to my attention I never thought about before. It was intense. The moment that Tarek said "how do you know" to Walter, I started to think. It really hit me. We really don't know how they feel. We treat them like they aren't even human. We just shoot them around like an ordinary day package. They say that racism is gone in this day in age, but they are soooo wrong. We treat them no better than dirt. The desk man didn't even care at all that this man's friend was deported. He was just getting annoyed with Walter for being there early. People go in there and are forgotten. They were never told any thing. They just had to do as they were told, almost like they were slaves or at least in jail. They never really did anything wrong other than trying to find a better place here in America. That movie was kinda a slap in the face to us. I hope that the world will do something about this.

I am also really proud of Walter. He did nothing with himself before. Now he actually found something worth working on, including Tarek and the cool drum. He now can live his life to the fullest. He will find that thing that makes his heart tick and do it. He maybe would even go to find tarek's mother. He may also start to find ways to make his job more enjoyable.

Art vs. Science

Some believe that two fields could not be further apart than art and science. But interestingly enough these two are brought together in the field of film production. With out a strong understanding of the technology your using and have access too even if you have the best ideas and story your film won't be any good. On the flipside if you are a master at every piece of equipment in the field but cant write a story worth crap than you film is also going to suffer. As a person going into this field its not just about coming up with stories but thinking of inventive ways to accomplish what you want to see. Take the matrix for example, we are all familiar with that famous shot where the camera circles around him as in slow motion he dodges bullets. They're were many ideas on how to shoot this, such as attaching a rocket to a high speed camera and sending it around a track, before they figured out a much better method of setting it which they ended up using. Instead of trying to send a video camera around in a circle really fast, why not just set up hundreds of still cameras in a circle and have them all take pictures in order in a small section of time. This method allowed them much more control and would have even given them the option to stop time completely for this shot. The idea of film as both a science and an art is really understated a lot of the time. It's all about seeing how it all fits together.

This video is an awesome combination of animation and subjectification of women not objectification. The song was entertaining and the video was so clever which made watching it fun. The Blind Side

I recently watched The Blind Side in theatres, this movie was an incredible film based on the true story of Michael Oher. Michael was taken in by a Christian family and given a second chance at life and is now a professional football player. This movie, as far as I know, was not made by believers but has very strong Christian morals and values portrayed. The Christians in this movie are not put in the bad light that many Christians in media are put in. They don't push Jesus on people, they just show love which is what we are called to do as believers. Sandra Bullock does a phenomenal job of being a tough Southern Barbie who helps turn Michael's life around. She has such a huge impact on Michael's life and it is very clear that Sandra Bullock's character is a believer. Not only is the high school that her children attend a Christian school, she always wears a cross around her neck. I loved the portrayal of Christians in this movie and all I could think of was that this is the type of movie that Christians should be making that would impact more of an audience instead of movies like Fireproof.

Moulin Rouge

Last year I was introduced to Moulin Rouge and realized how much I love that movie. The music in this film is INCREDIBLE!! Every time Ewan McGregor opens his mouth to sing I got the chills. It was an amazing surprise that I still have not gotten over. Besides the music the story in this is a beautiful and romantic story that will go on for all time. There are so many stories about two people falling in love and one dies leaving the other alone and heartbroken, but this one is deeper than that. It is more than a third party telling a story that is sad, it's the man who was left behind telling the story and that made it so much more meaningful. Another big difference between this and other "Romeo and Juliet stories" is that the acting is phenomenal. In most movies like this the acting is only mediocre and the characters don't draw the audience in; however, these characters are real and flawed and their relationship isn't perfect. Christian and Satine have to fight for their love it isn't handed to them on a perfect silver platter like so many of the movie romances portrayed today. The characters do what they can to survive and when they realize that they truly do love each other they can't keep their love quiet anymore. Although telling about their secret love affair makes everything complicated it makes their last few moments together that much more intense and passionate. The love they shared lasted beyond her death and created a beautiful story that her left behind lover had the courage to tell.

Half-Life Pt3.

So after defeating the aliens of Xen in the first Half-Life, you 'awaken' to a world very much different from the one you left. You are placed into City 17, an unplaced city that is under the tyrannical rule of 'The Combine'. As it turns out, things got much worse after Black Mesa, and the the Xen Aliens returned, and with force. Things have changed so much so that a sect of the aliens have no allied with rebellious forces. The name 'Freeman' is now taken as Free Man, as in, not being one who is slavery. You eventually come across Alex and her father Eli, a former scientist at Black Mesa. Outfitted soon after you are tasked with taking reign of the rebellion, among other things. Eventually you succeed at destroying the combine's central tower, only to be taken out of time again.

In episode 1 you are reinserted.

The first 'episode' a shorter half-life game that continues the series, tasks you with entering devastated combine tower, and retrieving information to avoid yet another explosion of catastrophic proportions. Along the way you help escort rebel forces out. The game keeps much of its first-person narrative, however not too much goes along in that narrative, unless you are one to pay very close attention.

Eventually you escape into a wreck, which is where episode 2 begins. The majority of Episode 2 has you and Alyx trekking cross-country to deliver vital information to shut down the impending cataclysmic event. Alyx is wounded at a point, and eventually revived. At this point you learned that the G-Man had saved her during the Black Mesa incident, much to the dismay of his superiors. And now he's cashing in the debt, making sure Alyx delivers a message of 'unforeseen consequences' to her father. Eventually the data is retrieved and the cataclysmic event is disrupted but not before those unforeseen consequences have been placed.

So in honor of Christmas, I thought I would talk about my favorite Christmas movie of all time It's a Wonderful Life. Every year my family and I watch this movie on Christmas Eve and every year I find I love it more and more. The story is sweet and beautiful and gives Christian truths without shoving them down the audience's throat. I love the character development that George Bailey goes through as he realizes that one man does make a huge difference even if he doesn't think he does. Every action that we take affects other people which starts a chain reaction of how one life affects other's lives. This message is so powerful and wonderful and the older I get the more I appreciate it. Everything about this movie, from the actors to the story, is wonderful and I absolutely love it.

Half-Life Pt2.

So what exactly is the story behind Half Life? Well you play as Gordan freeman throughout the series. Consequently he is the ever-silent protagonist, never uttering a word. All the action happens around you and most of the dialogue is delivered between other characters. The first game takes place in the Black Mesa Complex. You, Gordan Freeman, a theoretical physicist take part in an experiment that begins the fight through the rest of the game. You create a 'resonance cascade', which in short terms pulls aliens from another dimension into our world. You fight your way through the Black Mesa Complex, defeating these aliens and solving some truly unique puzzles that take advantage of the Half Life Physics Engine. Soon you're battling the army, desperate to cover up what has happened to the facility. Eventually you find out that the initial time-space rupture was only the beginning and going to lead to more destruction. Again, most of this is played through your first person view. Nothing is given away outside of what you witness. There are a few expansion packs that give the view of a few other characters. Throughout the games there is one constant character, the 'unnamed' character dubbed the 'G-Man' who's power seems godlike and mysterious. Always appearing in an unassuming suit with a suitcase. The inevitable meeting leaves you 'trapped', as you have been an 'agent' for his 'superiors' the entire time. That is until you are brought back again.

Interesting stuff here. As I was writing my final paper for DMA, I had to do a bit of research on the band Limp Bizkit and the violence their song "Break Stuff" caused at the Woodstock 99' festival. There had already been fires started, and other misdemeanors happening, but when they played that song, famous for the lines "And if my day keeps going this way I might break your fucking face tonight! Give me something to break!"

The lyrics made the crowd erupt and when the smoke had cleared, there were reports of rape and over a million dolllars in damage to sound equiptment. But is the blame on Limp Bizkit? Or on the people who couldn't control themselves? One spectator in the audience has been famously quoted on the incident saying, "Maybe they ran out of drugs."

The Princess and the Frog

The newest Disney movie that just came out on Friday is the first all 2-D animation since the late 1990s and I am super excited to see it. I love the classic Disney movies and I cannot wait to have a flashback to that style of animation. I have heard nothing but good things about this movie which only fuels my desire to see it. The music was very well received (no surprise there) and the story has plot twists that keep the audience guessing. I am also thrilled that the princess in this movie has character flaws, she is a work-aholic who doesn't always do things perfectly. I am more excited for this movie than I think most young girls are because it makes me feel like I am going back to when I was little. As much as I love Pixar and the new CGI Disney movies going back to its roots was one of the most exciting decisions Disney has ever made in my personal opinion. Everything about the hand-drawn animation is magical and beautiful and I absolutely cannot wait to watch this movie!!

I thought this film was a unique style that created a strong link between comic strip animation and film animation and this was a beautiful story. The whole idea of the movie was great, but about half-way through I found myself getting bored. I wasn't really invested in the lead because I didn't really like her. She seemed like a selfish and self-righteous person that I really didn't want to succeed in life. I loved some of the surrounding characters and I loved the honesty that was portrayed in the film, but I just never really found myself wanting to watch the movie or get involved in the characters.

I'm really interested in behind the scenes kind of stuff. I think this series from the Darjeeling Limited is really exciting because you get to see how much effort was put into the film. They had a guy that painted 500 elephants by hand on the train. thats pretty awesome. Also Adrian Brody really jumped on a moving train.

Seeing what they did with the set to be able to shoot inside the train was also very neat. I like seeing how they pull off shots like this.

Sorry everyone...I'm bringing back Crumb...I just really need blog credits!! The very first thing I noticed while watching Crumb was that every woman in his comic strips is distorted in some way. Her body was always very exaggerated and awkward looking and she either never had a face or her face belonged to a monster. After seeing this and then hearing about his two brothers' odd views of women as well, it made me wonder what happened to them that they all have distorted views of women. It broke my heart to see someone so lost and broken that he has to distort women in every aspect of her physical appearance. I have no idea what happened to make the Crumb brothers so messed up but I do know that we can learn so much from them. No matter how broken a person is they are still of value and offer interesting artwork that make everyone think. Usually their artwork has some of the most though-provoking images because that artist is searching for the truth and is fine admitting that. I feel that is how R Crumb is; he's searching for what is real to him and as disturbing as those images are, they come out in his art.

MAC vs PC

now for the MAC PC fight that every one loves so much! haha see me i love MACS never really used anything else like a PC so i have never really got a virus because MACS cant get them but pcs oh you have to buy virus protection. that stinks i mean i would hate to have to worry about getting a virus that would really stink to get one of those. oh and also pc's are not made as good my mom had to get one for her work and she dripped a little drop of water and it shot the hard drive and she has spilled a glass of water on her mac book and it didnt even slow it down. yes MAC is a little more pricey but its for sure worth the money to get a MAC other then a pc (aka piece of crap well that's what i've heard it being called lately) but i would also have to say that a pc can be nice for some people but if you want a great lap top or desk top i'd go with MAC. but thats just my thoughts on the matter if you disagree comment me.

Fisher King and Changeling

I really enjoyed this movie! It is one Robin Williams best roles in my opinion. I had never heard the legend of the Fisher King before so the whole concepts was different to me. But I think it is something we can all resonate with. The idea that we spend our lives trying to get to one thing and sometimes it takes a fool to figure out that what we are searching for is not all it's cracked up to be. I loved the story, and the actors they chose play the roles.

I also really enjoyed Changeling it was not your feel good film of the year. However, it kept the suspense without all the gore. We got to see the pure love of a mother for her child. And, how the very ones we believe we can trust sometimes are not who they seem to be. This was my first Clint Eastwood (directed) film that I have seen and I was very impressed. I loved how he did not use very much color, except in specific objects, it gave the film almost a black and white almost cold and impersonal feel, which was appropriate with the story he was telling.

Everybody's Fool

My whole life I have always been interested in music videos; however, the image that is portrayed by women is not good or right. Evanescence's lead singer Amy Lee does an amazing job in portraying a strong, beautiful woman without dancing around in skimply clothes. Their video for the song Everybody's Fool portrays this beautifully. This whole video and song are making fun of the industry that tells lies and doesn't really exist with people who are totally fake. It also does a wonderful job of showing that even these women that all young girls look up to, are struggling with self-doubt and low self-esteem. This video is an encouragement to so many young women because it shows that all of the women that the industry considers beautiful still struggle with the same problems as the rest of the us. This video is so powerful and this is the kind of message that the music industry should be sending more of these images out rather than the fake videos full of girls who have been completely objectified. Anyone who knows me well, knows that I am a lover of cartoons. Now I must admit that for the most part cartoons they show today are utterly ridiculous and you most likely lose a lot of brain cells while watching them, however there are still a number of cartoons that manage to be really good. My favorite type of cartoon has to be anime, Japanese cartoons that have steadily becoming more and more popular in the United States. While most American produced cartoons tell short stories revolving around the program's main characters that make no general progress regarding story-line, anime stories progress with each episode. Not only that, but a lot of them are REALLY good, containing complex story lines that confront many of the problems with humanity. There are also many different genres of anime such as action, romance, adventure, mystery, horror, and fantasy. Some of my personal favorites, and animes that I would recommend include Naruto, Bleach, Death Note, One Piece, Soul Eater, Eureka Seven, Claymore, Samurai Champloo, Yu yu hakusho, and many more. Animes can be viewed either online, or on certain T.V. channels.

If you're a fan of great action, intense scenarios, moving love stories, or thought provoking mysteries, I highly recommend you check it out!

Fantastic Mr. Fox

When I saw the trailer for Fantastic Mr. Fox I thought that the style of animation/stop motion they were going for was just going to end up looking crappy and not really add anything to the film. The style of animation really gave a wonderful feel and a great mood to the film. The film felt very independent which added to the story. It was really cool seeing this film with the super independent feel to it but also having high budget voice actors. Often movies like these have that “sell out” or “Green schlop” feel to them but this movie really felt legitimate and I could tell that the animators really had a good time animating this. The story was also wonderful, at times it really felt contrived and quite a bit exaggerated but then again the story is about a talking fox so you got to look at it from a different lens and really just kind of have fun with the story. I can tell that this film wasn’t made simply for money the movie makers really wanted to make this film and they had a good time doing it.

Warhammer 40,000 pt3

So, with my other blog I touched on the beginning of what begins what could be considered the "common era" of the Warhammer 40k era. Another thing popped into my head right after posting that blog. One of the Space Marine chapters I collect is known as the Legion of the Damned. The story of them is quite interesting.

There was a chapter known as the Fire Hawks that was lost in the Warp, which is a sore within the galaxy that all the Chaos thrives. Soon after, strange apparitions started appearing during times of great despair for the Imperium. When all was thought to be lost during a battle, warriors clad in pitch-black armor decorated with jeering skulls writhing in flames would appear and rain death upon their enemies. They would disappear just as quickly as they appeared.

Essentially, the LotD are the Imperium’s guardian angels. But they are also despised. The Imperium is extremely superstitious, and some think that the LotD may be some Chaos trickery. Whatever it is they are, they are freaking awesome.

Machinima

Ok i know i will probably get shot for this but here it goes. I don't see Machinima as a viable form of animation. I'm not denying the fact that it takes a very long time to create. However, all it really amounts to is clever voice overs. I watched red vs. blue and just found it a little dry. I don't know it just lacked the emotion that most animation brings.

When I was little me and my friends used to make Lego videos with a special camera that came in a Lego set, and yes I know this is more advanced and such, but really on the grand scale of things they bring about the same type of quality films.

All this being said I do hope it grows and can be tweaked to form show more emotion and get away from just the gamer jokes. It seems like a pretty neat form of advancement and with a little time I think it could be a force to be reckoned with. But as it is right now, you cant get away from the traditional animation alternative.

Warhammer 40,000 Pt 2

With my last Warhammer 40,000 blog I talked about the fall and how the traitor legions came into being. Well, now time to elaborate on that a bit.

Okay, so like I mentioned it was a daemon that convinced Horus to rebel. Well, a daemon is basically a demon. As such, they are essentially pure evil. Well, the daemon forces are known as Chaos. Within Chaos there are four Chaos gods. These are Nurgle, Slaanesh, Tzeentch, and Khorne, which are the gods of pestilence, lust, sorcery, and blood, respectively. For the most part, the Chaos Space Marines worship all of them, but a few devote themselves to one particular sect.

There is a book series on the Horus Heresy, which I am far behind on now, but so far it has chronicled the fall of a few of the chapters. Nurgle has been encountered, and there was nothing really new under the sun; I knew that he loved decay and stuff. I knew about Khorne and the bloodlust he causes. I still don’t know much about Tzeentch, but as far as I know there isn’t a bunch of super interesting stuff. The book about the chapter that fell to Slaanesh was by far the most interesting. Now, I had not thought too much about Slaanesh, even though some of the models are a bit perverse. Well, this book opened my eyes. To make a long story short, Slaanesh causes people to delight in perverse things for pleasure. Pretty much, he uncovered the secret, evil desires of men’s hearts and brought those to the surface and to the point where they would go mad if they weren’t being pleasured in some way. The chapter, known as the Emperor’s Children, strived for perfection above all. This lead to their fall, as Slaanesh promised them perfection. Instead they got warped and twisted, but still believed that they were perfect.

So here it is, finally the video I promised to post after my presentation.

I hope you like it, I really did.

This was a very impressive video both with story and visual. It is evident that this film is a steampunk inspired piece. Even though the characters are simple the backgrounds are intricate and complex. It makes a point with the color scheme too, only emphasizing color with blood.Steampunk has also been associated with scientific romanticism like Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Aspects from romanticism from the late 18th century can be found in Jasper Morello. It is similar to Edgar Allen Poe's writings, who was a romantic author. It draws on the emotions of horror and awe just as a romantic piece would. As a steampunk film it contains the traditional use of machinery and steam as a form of energy. Also the use of Victorian like language and styles in characters revel the short as a steampunk film. There is a theme of sacrifice and loyalty through out this piece that can be found in other steampunk films. Over all this as a must watch just for how it can blow you mind in the end.

Hayao Miyazaki

One of my favorite directors of all time is Hayao Miyazaki. Of all the animators of today, it can easily be said that Miyazaki has made a noticeable contribution to animation. There's just something magical about all of his works that completely sets them apart from other films today. From family friendly films like My Neighbor Totoro, to more mature movies like Princess Mononoke, to deep thought provoking masterpieces like Spirited Away, there seems to be something for all when it comes to Miyazaki's films. Like Pixar, Miyazaki takes the time to do what many other films refrain from doing now adays, and that is to give the story depth. While watching his works, you can't help but fall in love with his characters and find yourself completely enrapt in his stories. A lot of the times the films are also quite funny, and I often find myself laughing hardly throughout the film, even when I've seen them before.

The reason I admire Miyazaki so much is because his movies are just all so good and they all manage to maintain a magical feel that you just don't find in most movies. I would highly recommend any one of his works to those with even a slight interest.

Playstation VS Xbox

ok so all im looking for is which console is better in your eyes? or fingers? lol well all i have to say is that i hear a lot about people saying there xbox got the red ring of death and playstation has not had that problem. but what i really dont get is why people think xbox is better then playstation on everything yes they might have halo but what xbox does not have is free internet. who wants to have to pay for there internet and then pay to play online as well! not me thats for sure. and all the people talking about how xbox is cheaper not if you wanna play online. then its for sure not cheaper you pay what sixty bucks a month and if you are ever gone then it will just run out of time and you cant play any more. LAME! playstation you dont have to deal with that you can play whenever and not have to pay for playing online! so nice. and every one says that xbox has better graphics thats so not true my friend and i got a xbox 360 and a playstation 3 and two identical flat screens and we both thought that playstation had better graphics. but thats just what we thought i wanna hear what you think.

The Visitor

I thought this movie was going to be a bit boring, bit in fact, I was quite happy with it. It is a sad story, but you can see the development of the characters, which is something I enjoy very much. Character development has been a favorite of mine, and this movie really drove this idea home. The way that the main character changes is obvious. He goes from a somewhat self centered person to a caring person who takes a particular interest in this other man. The woman who lives with the drum player also changes. At first she is quite cold hardened toward the main character, but she learns to like him alot and accept him.

I think that the movie also showed the need for a hobby or distraction. I think everyone needs something to help them think and focus, or get away for a bit. My own music helps me with this, just like the man in the movie. I can really relate to him. Music, just like the other arts, helps you escape and clear your mind. I think the way the movie was put together was brilliant and I think the director may have had a personal connection with it.

It was a great movie, and I was surprised I had never heard of it before in Christian circles. I will be sure to recommend it to some people.

well to start off there are a lot of Ipods that were made just to lead up to the Ipod touch and the nano with the video and the 160GB Classic. so a little bet of history about the Ipod is that they came out with the very first is 2001 with the Ipod. in 2002 they came out with the 2G Ipod in 2003 the 3G Ipod and that led them to the Ipod mini in 2004 and the HP Ipod in 2004 (which i have never heard of.) and of course the Ipod 4G. the 4G led them to the Ipod photo and the Ipod U2 the U2 went on to the U2 color and the Ipod 5G U2. the Ipod photo lead them to the Ipod color and the Ipod nano. the Ipod color went on to be the Ipod 5G and now it is the Ipod classic. the Ipod nano moved on the a 2G and a 3G and now they have the 5G with the video. now moving back up to the mini the mini only went on to a 2G but it was used to make the Ipoc shuffle in 2005 and then the new Ipod shuffle with the clip in 2006 and they are still using that one today. but one they i want to point out is that every one thinks that the Ipod nano is so cool with the video but the thing that apple is really smart! they want every one to go buy the nano and then next year or the year after i dont know they are probably going to put video on the Ipod touch. and then every one will go out and buy that one. which is great for business. so i'm just going to wait until they come out with the Ipod touch with Video. but thats just me.

I have watched the television series about 3 times all the way through now... and I have to say I'm both super excited and yet not at all to see this movie. I think that the show has awesome fight scenes and a lot of the aspects of the world they created would really work well for film. What I am nervous about is the fact that they are combining all of the episodes from season 1 into one movie. I feel like each episode we learn soo much about the characters, and then they just condense that? I hope the plot isn't too thin from skipping over things.

Now they may deviate from the story and show things that the tv show alluded to but didn't show. For instance in the movie trailer they show the fire nation getting ready to attack the eastern air temple. That never happened in the show. Ang sees that the temple had been raided but the tv show doesn't play through those events, it only alludes to it. I think that if they do this filling in business, then I hop they stay consistent with what I know to be true from the show.

Public Enemies

I just finished watching Public Enemies with Johnny Depp.
I thought the film was phenomenal. I especially enjoyed the cinematography. It kind of reminded me of old westerns with really wide shots where the action just plays out and there isn't a lot of hype, then shots where they are real close and the action is real intense.
I thought Depp was awesome in this role too.

I had heard that a lot of people didn't think the film was that great. I think that they just didn't like the ending. They must not have known the story of Dillinger before seeing this movie. I knew how Dillinger's life played out and I thought it was a really neat film.

Dove Beauty Campaign

Telling girls they are beautiful just the way they are.....this actually happens? And its in the media?

Dove Campaign for Real Beauty has been established as a way to help young girls and women learn to have better self esteem through learning to have confidence and think of themselves as a beautiful person, even if their bodies and faces don't conform to today's standards of beauty. Their mission statement reads as follows:

Dove strives to realistically display women by accurately depicting their natural shape, size, skin color, and age." Dove really made a smart move with this. The self-esteem fund can not only help Dove become a more noteworthy company, but it can also be for a good cause and something that might help make a difference in the lives of young girls who are pressured by societies views on beauty.

G.I. Joe

So last week me and a few friends saw G.I. Joe. Now the summer blockbuster film received mixed reviews for being a decent action flick but suffering from a slightly unrealistic plot. As a result, while we enjoyed watching the movie, it was continually slammed by my fellow film watchers all the way through. Now when I first saw the movie a few months ago, I thought it was pretty good and was just a good movie to watch when you simply wanted to have fun. The flicks got some pretty good action scenes, and the scriptwriters actually went through the trouble of actually adding scenes to help add character development that I thought really contributed to the overall experience. I guess, when it really comes down to it, it really depends on particular taste. If you can manage a few cheesy lines and plot holes, then G.I. Joe is a fun film to watch. And if you simply can't find any other way to enjoy it, then ripping it can be pretty fun too. In the end, if you're a fan of action films, you might want to check this one out!

Oh the semester ends

So for my last post i thought i would talk about how much fun i have had in this class. I have learned so much about media, and i have really been challenged on a lot of my beliefs and i think i have become a better person for it. I enjoyed everything i learned both for animation and film production. I have tons of respect for Leeper and what he does.

I have learned to make my own opinions on a lot of issues instead of listening to the crowd and the people who influence me.

My favorite part of this class was the leftover videos we watched at the end. I enjoyed just watching them and having fun. I guess that wasnt my favorite but it was definitely in my top 3.

I have gain a bigger respect for the animation community and i know it takes a lot of skill and effort to be an animator. Although making a live action film is hard as well.

Wes Anderson

I saw Bottle Rocket the other day, and really enjoyed it. I feel like I’m starting to understand Wes Anderson’s style a little bit more. I really do like his work. I have seen a few other movies by him, such as The Royal Tenenbaums, Life Aquatic, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, and then most recently, Bottle Rocket. He’s not your average director, at least, that’s what I am picking up from the uniqueness of his films. His characters seem very eccentric- more realistic than your typical Hollywood movie characters, but still out of the ordinary, but in a unique way. It’s hard for me to explain. When I think about typical Hollywood characters, I think they are unrealistic in how they act. The lines are always perfect, always catchy in the same way, but Wes Anderson gives his characters a completely different way of acting that reflects a similar sense of humor in all of his films (or, at least the ones I have seen). Sometimes, his movies’ characters/plots are really really absurd. So absurd, it’s funny. Just everything about his movies has an awkward, brilliant touch to them, that when you see them, you know it’s a wes Anderson film. Plus, he stars a lot of them same characters in his movies, such as Luke and Owen Wilson, and this one old guy, although, I can’t remember his name off the top of my head. At first, I didn’t like his movies. I saw the Royal Tenenbaums and was pretty bored. But the more I saw of him, the more I loved the offbeat movies. They were intriguing and different from the usual, predictable movies you see in theaters. I'm no expert on him or his movies, but this is what I think.

So, before this class, I really must say, I didn’t know much at all about film. But I feel like I’ve learned the importance of knowing what’s out there, aside from mainstream movies. Over this past semester, I’ve also discovered a lot of amazing websites that have pulled me into a lot of independent film work- sites dedicated to artistic filmmakers who want to share their work with others! (And no, I’m not talking about youtube).

This is a website where people post videos that they have created. (A majority of them are shown in HD). I could spend hours watching random people’s animations shorts. Some are really impressive; some are mediocre. But overall, what I generally see on this site are films that people put serious time, thought, and creativity into making, and it shows. It’s an inspiring site and a community of all types of aspiring and already filmmakers; it’s an opportunity for them to come together, see each others films, comment, critique, advise, and encourage. I hope someday I’ll have some videos of my own to put on the site. ☺

Music Videos

So a couple weeks ago Leeper introduced a bunch of music videos to us that were each visual achievements in their own rights. Of the several he showed us, the Gorillaz video and Sigur Ros were by far my favorites. While undoubtedly dark, there was something unique and cool about the Gorillaz vid. The giant holograms of the musicians playing, I thought, was awesome and gave a distinctive feel of massiveness to the performance. I loved how each of the animated band members were based off of their actual hidden artists, and the music was unlike any other I've ever heard before. Not saying their the greatest band ever, but they were certainly something fresh and new.

As for Sigur Ros, it's kind of funny because it's almost the poler opposite compared the Gorillaz. The Theme was light hearted and throughout the entire video it had a certain magical feel to it. From the very beginning you're wrapped in this mystery of who these kids are, where they are, and what they're doing, and little by little this mystery is unwrapped as the film goes on. The final part where the kids jump off the cliff and begin to fly, I believe, was the most magical part of all.

I appreciated that Leeper showed these videos because in a way it opened up several more possibilities to exactly what music videos are capable of.

I totally forgot to blog on this film!!!

I am a big Robin Williams fan and i was excited to see this film. I have to admit it is not my most favorite piece but I do really like some big parts in it. The whole red knight thing that was haunting robin's character, at first I thought that's really cheesy, but then it grew on me and then when we talked about the blood from the woman's face and how that tied into the knight I thought "Woah" that's awesome! The story telling in this film was really really cool. I loved the dance in Time's Square, it was beautiful and really unexpected... but it worked.

The idea of just looking at peoples needs "I saw you were thirsty" attitude was very neat. I didn't really get all that until we discussed it afterwards. I was surprised by this film. Again i would not put it down as a favorite but i did really enjoy it.

I don’t know if anyone here has seen the film “Once”, but I would highly recommend it, especially for those of you who have an appreciation for good music.

I really like films that are low budget and don’t involve any special effects or dramatic camera shots. I enjoy movies that are simple- I think it allows us to better focus on the characters, dialogue, and the story without all of the visual distractions. I really appreciate the authenticity of the characters. The man and woman in the story are musicians together in real life. The song “falling slowly” which they write together in the movie, won a lot of awards. It’s a beautiful, breathtaking song. The entire soundtrack is AMAZING- I highly recommend it. It was made with two mini dv cameras and was apparently done on a budget under 100,000 dollars. Now, I think it takes a certain person to appreciate this film. Has I seen this movie a few years ago, I would have thought it was a piece of crap, a boring film, and a waste of my time. But I’m learning to be a GOOD READING, and as a result of my patience and open mindedness now with movies, I’ve come to discover some really amazing films!

the ringer

To be completely honest, I am not sure how I feel about this movie. I have two different feelings for it. At first I am kinda affended by the whole thing. They put this together to be laughed at. He even pretends to be like them, adding stereotypical aspects to the whole thing. For example, the way he talked and walked. They are not all like that. He was making fun of them. He was doing it with some of them sitting right there in front of him. I am curious if they knew that he was doing that or hat the movie was about. The movie did bring laughter, but was it us laughing with them or at them. It is kinda a demeaning film. This is just one thought about the movie.

Another thing was I thought it was a good movie. It brought a world that many are too uncomfortable to talk about into our own with the use of clever lines, acting, and humor. It can make thing less awkward. People can get an idea how cool they really are and how they aren't that much different from us. They laugh, they cry, they can do a lot of things like us. They feel more approachable after getting a better idea of who they are. They are a part of our world and now also a part of the movie industry.

Let's call it the "Paranormal Effect" initiative.

It's a fascinating, potentially game-changing concept, since it's a wonderful way for studios to replenish the pipeline with new ideas, but ideas that can be executed on a cheap budget. Even if most of the films never see the light of day, it could serve as a valuable way for Paramount to gain access to new talent, since presumably the studio would retain the right to make a movie with anyone participating in the program. It will also surely make a magnet for every good low-budget idea in town, encouraging young filmmakers looking for a break to send their scripts, demo reels and story outlines the studio's way.

But, of course, there are drawbacks.

dawn of the dead

Since i want to go into casting when im older, i literally hardcore judge every movie i see based on the acting and how well it was casted. So i saw Dawn of the Dead last night, it was my second time seeing it and i thoroughly enjoyed it again. I dont know why zombie movies are so interesting... but they are.

But to talk about the acting.. it was pretty good, i have seen a lot worse in these zombie movies. I thought that the overall casting was good, the main girl was a little iffy at times, but mostly she was pretty good. I felt like a lot of the crying scenes were pushed, i dunno, i guess its hard for me to sympathize with people who are getting eaten by zombies... but maybe im just cold hearted.

One thing that i thought about is if they have a session on how to act like a zombie... haha it makes me laugh just thinking about people getting trained to walk funny and try to eat people.

because i didn't understand "the ascension" clip, i thought that maybe the theme was to show how awesome was to see someone jumping into the water but in reverse in slow motion. but never came into my mind that it had to do with Christ ascension or anything related with God. well my issue is that i think is annoying how people find EVERYTHING related with the bible and i dont know if that makes me a bad reader. i think that sometimes all you have to do is see what are they showing on the screen and stop finding things that relate with it.

because i dont find everything related with God does that means something is wrong on my personal relationship with Him?? Is not finding videos related with the bible makes me a bad reader??

The Shining

So I have said before that i cant watch old movies, and i dont know why i just cant get my mind to watch them.. but i got past that. I watched the Shining over this weekend, its said to be a true horror story. I liked it, i really did. It made me sit on the edge of my seat the entire time because i didnt know what was gunna happen next. I just kept hoping the boy wasnt going to die, because i hate movies where the kids die in them.

To be honest i didnt like Jack Nicholson in it, i feel like this was the beginning of his carrer and he wasnt that good at acting yet. He didnt convince me enough that he was actually insane. I really enjoyed the kid in it, he was really really good, i was really really impressed with him, because he was only 5 and better then jack nicholson... hmm

This movie does make me want to watch more 80's movies, i will compromise to that, but it will take me a little more to watch anything before that.. haha

The Visitor

The Visitor is a very touching movie that tells the tale of a man named Walter who one day comes home to find another family living in his apartment. While at first Walter kicks the family out, he then has a change of heart and invites them back in until they can find a place to stay. The family consists of a couple who are both minorities, and the movie goes on to explain the difficulty of life for minorities today.

The movie, I thought was very touching, as you see this professor, named Walter, go through a drastic change. Whereas he used to be cruel and uncaring, after getting involved with the minority couple he slowly starts to regain his humanity again. The movie also addresses problems within the U.S. immigration system.

Though the movie does have kind of a sad ending, this doesn't keep it from being a very powerful film. I would highly recommend this movie to any and all movie lovers.

Christmas what happened to it?

all i want to know is what happened to Merry Christmas how did it turn in to harry holidays? and why just because Christ is the one who died on the cross for our sins and is the Son of God! i don't get why people would get offended by Merry Christmas? i get offended when people say "happy holidays" all i can say back is Merry Christmas to you to! and then some people look at me like oh i should have said Merry Christmas i think i might have offended him and then some just look at me like i dont know what im talking about and that i missed the memo or something. what i dont understand is why should we try and take Christ out of Christmas for that is how it is meant to be Merry Christmas not happy holidays i think its stupid how people try and change what God has made so perfectly! why must we take the Christ out of Christmas why must we take in God we trust out of the national anthem? i dont know but what i want to know is what are we "Christians" doing about it just sitting around doing nothing? i believe that we Christians should stand up for what we believe in and what God has put in the world or a propose. thats just me thinking out loud but i think you get my point.

I Love Leftovers (Part 3)!

I'll Wait for the Next One sets itself up as a cute little comedy skit, and it delivers on that premise but also surprises you with an incredibly moving finale,This was the best live-action short nominated by the Academy back in 2003. Four minute comedies are not supposed to be as moving as this film is, it's funny, charming, and heartbreaking all at the same time, showing you your emotions in a combination that they are not generally found. I can't recommend this movie enough. By the end of the diminutive film you feel like you have known the characters for years, especially the lead man and the woman looking for love, probably because they so perfectly represent.

The actor on the train is as believable as the lead, even after the reveal, while the crowd effectively resembles the perspective of the audience of the short, itself. Meanwhile, the director is invisible as a storyteller until he brings out his best trick. Seek this one out, you will laugh and you will cry, and most of all you will be moved. For romantics out there, and I am one, this isn't the type of film that ultimately satisfies. It reminds me of THE PURPLE ROSE OF CAIRO because that film also seems to have a rather cynical and sad outlook on love. It's well made, but man is it a downer.

Hmmm,...now that I think about it, at least the film did get a reaction from me. not because i've been lonely its because.... im afraid that i've done this to some girls :(

Into the West

The TNT Mini-series "Into the West", which I first saw two years ago, chronicles the lives of two families in the mid 1800s through several generations. One family is native american; the other European. The two families become intertwined as the show follows their lives through many true events of the time, such as the entire concept of Manifest Destiny, the Gold Rush, and even the building of the trans-continental railroad.

Executively produced by Steven Spielberg, the miniseries dives into the real concept that within the conflict between the white man and the native americans, there were both true, noble men as well as horrible, violent men on both sides.

This series is very historically accurate, and I highly advise you to watch it. However, don't watch it and expect a happy ending. While the first episode has a quite pleasing finish, the others do not; instead of sugar coating the truth of the era, they present it with warts and all.
